NoteLoom Privacy Policy
NoteLoom is a local-first Markdown knowledge base, with a Chrome extension for reading web pages, clipping web content, and organizing video subtitles. This policy explains how we handle data related to these features.
Effective date: June 5, 2026
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the following products and pages:
- NoteLoom website:
https://noteloom.cc - NoteLoom web app:
https://app.noteloom.cc - NoteLoom Chrome extension
2. Our core principles
- Local-first: your note files are saved first in the local folder you choose.
- User-initiated: the Chrome extension only processes the current page's content when you actively open the reading view, clip a page, or extract subtitles.
- Minimal processing: we only process the data needed to complete reading, clipping, saving settings, and opening NoteLoom.
- No selling of data: we do not sell your personal information, web page content, note content, or browsing data.
3. Data we may process
1. Local notes and files
In the web app, once you grant access to a local folder through your browser, NoteLoom reads and writes the Markdown files in that folder within your browser. Note bodies, file names, folder structure, and attachments are not automatically uploaded to NoteLoom servers because of this feature.
2. Web page content processed by the Chrome extension
When you actively use the extension's features, it may process the following information in the current tab:
- The current page's URL, title, body text, outline structure, and selected content.
- The page HTML, image URLs, source links, and page metadata used for clipping.
- Subtitles, chapters, or video page information accessible on supported video pages such as YouTube and Bilibili.
- Public page information used to generate reading or clipping content on supported pages such as Xiaohongshu.
This content is used to generate the reading view, clipping previews, subtitle notes, or content saved to NoteLoom. The extension does not upload page body text to advertising platforms, data brokers, or other third-party services.
3. Browser and extension settings
The extension may save the following settings or temporary data locally in your browser:
- Reading preferences such as reading theme, font size, line width, and the outline toggle.
- The NoteLoom app URL, your most recent clip target, and temporary clip content.
- The tab state needed to open or reuse a NoteLoom tab.
4. Cookies and login state
The extension may read cookies or login state on supported sites to determine whether subtitles or page content are accessible on the current page. For example, on video platforms, login state may affect whether subtitles are visible. The extension does not store your account passwords, nor does it attempt to read passwords, payment information, or verification codes.
5. Contact information
If you actively contact us by email, we process your email address and the contents of your message to reply to your questions, handle feedback, or troubleshoot issues.
6. Website analytics
The website may use privacy-friendly analytics tools to understand page traffic. Such analytics are used to improve the pages and the product, not for ad tracking or cross-site profiling.
4. How we use this data
- To provide a web reading view that reduces ads, pop-ups, and page clutter.
- To organize page body text, source links, and video subtitles into saveable note content.
- To save content to the local folder you authorized or to the NoteLoom page you actively opened.
- To save reading preferences and extension settings so they stay consistent the next time you use them.
- To handle support requests and troubleshooting based on your email feedback.
5. Chrome extension permissions
The NoteLoom Chrome extension requests several permissions. Their purposes are as follows:
activeTab: access the current tab when you actively click the extension or perform an action.scripting: inject reading, body-text extraction, subtitle extraction, or clipping scripts into the current page.storage: save reading preferences, extension settings, and temporary clip data locally in the browser.tabs: find, open, or reuse a NoteLoom tab, and clean up temporary state once done.cookies: determine whether subtitles or page content are accessible on supported sites; not used to store account passwords.- Host permissions: access supported sites such as the NoteLoom app, YouTube, Google, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu for web reading, clipping, subtitle extraction, and image reading.
6. Data sharing and transfer
We do not sell your data, and we do not use the web page content processed by the Chrome extension for advertising, profiling, credit assessment, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
In the following limited situations, data may be processed or disclosed:
- You actively save web page content to NoteLoom or copy it to another tool.
- Your browser makes requests directly to the corresponding site to load the original page, images, or subtitles.
- We are legally required to respond to a valid legal request.
- You actively send us an email or feedback, and we process the related content to reply and troubleshoot.
7. Data retention
- Local notes and files are saved by you on your own device or sync tools; NoteLoom does not control how long they are kept.
- Extension settings are saved locally in your browser until you change the settings, clear browser data, or uninstall the extension.
- Temporary clip data is used to complete the clipping process and can be cleaned up by the extension or browser once done.
- Email support records are kept for a reasonable period necessary to handle the issue.
8. Your controls

- You can clear extension data and site data in your browser settings.
- You can revoke the NoteLoom web app's access to local folders in your browser.
